This Herman Miller face mask is designed to fight modern slavery

So you can’t afford an iconic Herman Miller Eames lounge chair. The good news is you can treat yourself to the esteemed mid-century modern furniture company’s new face masks for a good cause.

Herman Miller has launched a limited-edition face mask called “Design for Freedom” in partnership with Grace Farms Foundation, a humanitarian non-profit organization. The face mask is $30. Proceeds from the sales of the masks will go to Design for Freedom, a Grace Farms initiative that seeks to eliminate modern slavery from the built environment.

 

 

Herman Miller teams up with Hip Hop Architect Michael Ford

Herman Miller has partnered with Hip Hop Architect Michael Ford, to host Conversations for Change, a platform for discussions about racial inequity, social justice, and hope.

Ford has produced his first piece of furniture with Herman Miller, a modified version of the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman (ELO) that was originally launched in 1956 by Charles and Ray Eames. For Ford’s remix, he has handwritten the names of victims of racism in the United States as a tribute to those who lost their lives to racial injustice.

Herman Miller Waits for Employers to Step Up Orders for New Office Furniture

Furniture maker Herman Miller Inc. isn’t sure when its corporate customers will reopen offices or when they would place orders for new furniture and other office equipment needed for a workspace reconfigured in keeping with coronavirus guidelines.

That is a challenge for its Chief Financial Officer Jeffrey Stutz. Mr. Stutz is preparing for a rush of orders from offices looking to redo layouts in line with social distancing rules, but is also juggling the need for investments in new products while business is weak.

Shares of Herman Miller <MLHR.O> soared 34% on Thursday after the office chair seller posted blowout quarterly results and joined an expanding list of companies reinstating their dividends as they become more confident about recovering from the coronavirus.

Herman Miller late on Wednesday reported revenue and earnings far above analysts’ expectations, with sales from its retail segment surging 40% thanks to strong demand from people kitting out their home offices due to the pandemic.

ZEELAND — With some lingering economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic weighing it down, Zeeland-based office furniture giant Herman Miller (NASDAQ: MLHR) still offered a better-than-expected earnings report late Wednesday.

The company saw a 6.6 percent drop in total revenue, totaling $626.8 million for the first quarter of fiscal year 2021 compared to $670.9 million at the same time last year. Still, the slight dip was not as bad as most analyst had forecast.

The Zeeland-based company recently announced that Amway’s Chief Reputation Officer Candace Matthews would join the board effective Aug. 21 and also will serve on the company’s Governance and Corporate Responsibility Committee.

America’s biggest office furniture manufacturers got the rug pulled out from under them by the COVID-19 pandemic.

For decades, producers like Herman Miller Inc. and Steelcase Inc. focused on selling through their own dealers to companies that bought ergonomic chairs and desks by the truckload and employed teams of designers and technicians to deliver and install them. None of them were prepared for a flood of orders for a single adjustable desk from stay-at-home workers suddenly trying to figure out how to conduct Zoom meetings from spare bedrooms.
