Kimball International announces 10 scholarships

Kimball International announced 10 scholarships were awarded to local students pursuing their higher education.

The Kimball International Scholarships Program awards multiple $2,000 scholarships to high-achieving young women and men each year and is funded by the Kimball International-Habig Foundation. Since the scholarship program was established in 1963, a total of over $3.5 million in scholarship funds have been granted.

Michigan lifts workplace rules; Steelcase employees can return to work

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer visited office and contract furniture giant Steelcase to say that employees may return to work. Whitmer also said that vaccinated workers are no longer required to wear masks on the job.

Rules forcing employees to work from home if possible were lifted across the state. Michigan is home to many big furniture makers, including Steelcase, Haworth, and Herman Miller.

The formerly family-owned company was acquired in late 2018 by Kimball, a large, Indiana-based furniture manufacturer.

Kimball International Inc. (NASDAQ: KBAL) filed a Maryland Work Adjustment and Retraining Notification on May 17 notifying the state that the 75-employee office at 1407 Parker Road will shut down. A spokesperson for Kimball confirmed via email that the last production day will be June 30.
