Abatement approved for Indiana Furniture expansion

JASPER — Indiana Furniture Industries will invest more than $17 million to add a new facility on Jasper’s south side and will close its location on Mill Street.

The Jasper Common Council approved Wednesday a nine-year tax abatement that will phase out in the final four years to help fund the project. The company announced earlier this week that it plans to build a 165,000-square-foot addition that will be used for manufacturing and shipping.

Steelcase (SCS), one of the largest furniture and workspace appliances manufacturers in the United States, has seen some difficult times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since millions of office workers have been working from home since early 2020, they haven’t been spending as much in office upgrades and overall workspace improvements as they typically do during the work cycle. As a result, Steelcase has seen a dramatic drop in revenues and earnings in 2020 and they expect 2021 to be just marginally better.

Trendway signs multi-year partnership with Canada’s Kinetic GPO

HOLLAND, Mich. –  Trendway has entered into a new, three-year partnership with Kinetic GPO, a cooperative purchasing organization established for the broader public sector, nonprofit and municipalities, academics, school boards and health and social services (MASH) entities across Canada.

The contract officially took effect on Feb. 1 and will remain active through Jan. 31, 2024, with an option to extend the term for an additional period of up to two years. It provides exclusive pricing and access to Trendway furniture, installation, and related products and services to public entities in Canada and helps the organizations reduce procurement costs by leveraging group purchasing power and simplifying the overall procurement process. PHILIPP DICKE IS THE NEW COUNTRY MANAGER AT FLOKK

Since the beginning of April, Philipp Dicke has been the new Country Manager Germany & Austria at office chair specialist Flokk.

He takes over the baton from René Sitter, who focuses on his duties as Senior Vice President Central Western Europe and the Flokk Group Executive Board.

Buyer eyes former Haworth plant

HIGH POINT — A shuttered furniture factory could see new life thanks to a prospective buyer.

Terry Seitz, owner of Woodbrook Designs, a case goods importer that has a warehouse in High Point, said he has a contract in place to purchase the Haworth seating property at 1673 W. English Road.

COVID-19 drastically changed the typical office environment. Businesses such as SOS Office Furniture, which will move to Vadnais Heights this June, had to quickly figure out how to serve the new needs of a work-at-home culture.
