Haworth CFO retiring; successor named

The chief financial officer at Haworth is retiring after 15 years of leadership and will be replaced by a longtime colleague.

The Holland-based furniture manufacturer said Wednesday that John Mooney is retiring in December and will be succeeded by Scott Poulton, a 21-year Haworth veteran.

JCPenney to emerge from bankruptcy in $800M deal, report says

It appears that the 96 year-old department store JCPenney is about to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

U.S. mall owners Simon Property Group and Brookfield Property Partners are close to finalizing an $800 million deal that would buy the struggling retailer out of bankruptcy, according to a report by CNBC. The deal would save about 70,000 jobs, along with 650 JCPenney stores from liquidating and shuttering, the report said.

Haworth poised for financial leadership shakeup before 2021

Over the remaining months of 2020, worldwide office furniture manufacturer Haworth Inc. will undergo a major transition within its financial leadership team.

Chief Financial Officer John Mooney announced over the summer that he would be retiring at the end of the year. Haworth recently announced that it appointed Scott Poulton to succeed Mooney as CFO.

La-Z-Boy announces plans to hire 125 workers

NEOSHO, Mo. — La-Z-Boy is hiring up to 125 workers for its plant in Neosho.

The employer — one of the largest in the area, with 815 workers currently — announced the hiring plans following an uptick in sales.

“Since furniture retailers reopened and our plants restarted operations, we are experiencing stronger-than-expected demand and have been ramping up production to meet that demand and service our customers,” said Bill Snow, vice president of La-Z-Boy Residential, in a recent email to the Globe. “As we increase production, we are looking to hire approximately 125 additional plant workers.

Eakes Office Solutions, a provider of business products and solutions, is celebrating their 75th anniversary this year. Founded in 1945 by Howard Eakes, the company has grown from two employees in Grand Island, Nebraska, to over 250 employees spanning 13 locations across Nebraska.

Originally named Office Equipment Company, Eakes started as a Remington Rand adding machine and typewriter servicing business. As Eakes continued to grow, so did their business offerings. The company added filing systems and office supplies in 1952, copiers and printers in the late 1970s, furniture and design services in 1998, commercial janitorial products and equipment in 2017, and a software and technology services division in 2019. Contract furniture, retailers expand home office partnerships

By some estimates, about one-half of U.S. office workers are working from home or elsewhere rather than their company’s offices. The move to home offices has been going on for a number of years, but the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in a rapid change in the workplace in 2020.
