Sara Armbruster becomes Steelcase president and CEO

Sara Armbruster became the 10th CEO in the 109-year history of Steelcase on Monday, Oct. 4.
Armbruster succeeds Jim Keane, who previously announced his plan to retire in January 2022. Keane will continue at Steelcase as vice chair until his retirement from the company.

Sara Armbruster has taken charge as the new president and CEO of Steelcase, which is number two on the FDMC 300 list of largest woodworking manufacturing companies.
Armbruster, 50, replaces Jim Keane, who announced last April he would be stepping down from top leadership in the company. Keane is expected to take on a new role as vice president of the company’s board of directors until his planned retirement in 2022.

Steelcase has formed an exclusive agreement with Kontrol Technologies Corp. to offer customers in the U.S. and Canada access to Kontrol BioCloud® viral detection technology. Kontrol will offer its air quality monitoring device exclusively in the contract furniture market through Steelcase’s extensive dealer network. BioCloud provides real-time detection of airborne pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2.

A pair of West Michigan manufacturers were included on a list of America’s 50 most community-minded companies.
Grand Rapids-based Steelcase and Battle Creek-based Kellogg Company were included on the 2021 list of The Civic 50, an initiative of Points of Light established in 2012 to recognize superior corporate citizenship, social impact and community engagement.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Office furniture manufacturer Steelcase has been recognized for its community involvement as a 2021 honoree of The Civic 50, part of the Points of Light volunteer service initiative.
The company was recognized for a number of service initiatives such as providing volunteer time, product and service donations and financial gifts as well as its “integration of community commitment into business policies and practices.”
New social innovation platform ensuring equity and wellbeing in education

Steelcase has responded to this issue by creating the Steelcase Social Innovation Lab to identify and accelerate the development of solutions addressing issues of equity and wellbeing in the education environment.
