GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.March 10, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Steelcase today announces the introduction of over 40 products designed to meet the emerging needs and expectations of workers based on new global research. The pandemic has reshaped what people need and expect in the office, according to studies the company conducted in 10 countries, which engaged over 32,000 people in multiple studies. Synthesizing these studies uncovered new overarching needs that will drive macro shifts in the overall work experience and lead to new ways of planning and designing offices. The research also finds 95% of organizations plan to return to the office, most exploring hybrid work experiences and embracing new ways of working after employees reported drops in productivity, engagement and innovation while working from home. Steelcase designers crafted a new collection of product solutions designed to address employee needs that were amplified by or emerged during the pandemic.

Net zero Steelcase announces goal to be carbon negative by 2030

After achieving carbon neutrality across its operations, Steelcase is now targeting new goals to be carbon negative by 2030.

Motivated by the urgency of climate change, Steelcase expanded upon its existing renewable energy commitments with the purchase of carbon offsets. In 2020, Steelcase achieved a reduction of more than 30 per cent in greenhouse gas emissions over the previous ten years. While the carbon neutral (net zero) target has been achieved by removing as much carbon as it emits, the company is now taking its commitment further with a goal to become carbon negative by 2030, which it plans to accomplish by reducing emissions across its operations with targets in line with climate science.

GRAND RAPIDS — Reduced demand brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a significant workforce reduction at Steelcase Inc.

The Grand Rapids – based furniture maker  announced measures Tuesday  to reduce the cost structure for the company’s corporation functions and Americas segment.

A combination of  early retirements  and both voluntary  and involuntary  separations shed the company of 300 salaried employees, or 8 percent of Steelcase’s salaried workforce in the Americas and corporate front office.
