La-Z-Boy expands board of directors with new appointment

MONROE, Mich. – La-Z-Boy has named Raza S. Haider to its board of directors. He will serve on the nominating and governance committee, and his appointment expands the board to 11 members.

Haider works at Bose Corp. as the company’s chief product and supply chain officer, where he is responsible for innovating the brand’s product portfolio to better connect with consumers. Prior to joining Bose, he was senior vice president at Dell Technologies, where he was most recently the general manager of Dell’s global consumer PC business. Before that, his career spans 23 years at other global companies, including McKinsey and Adventis.

La-Z-Boy Foundation makes dental school donation

La-Z-Boy probably won’t make dental chairs anytime soon, but it helped make a dental school Wednesday.

On a day when the Neosho plant produced its 19 millionth product, company officials visited the Joplin campus of Kansas City University and presented a $20,000 donation to its College of Dental Medicine.

United Fund receives $25,000 from La-Z-Boy

The United Community Fund of Neosho Area (United Fund) received $25,000 from La-Z-Boy in Neosho on Jun. 8, as the partnership between the two continues to help local non-profit organizations.

The United Fund supports a wide variety of causes and agencies that provide services in health, education, and recreation for citizens in the Neosho area.

It also provides assistance for disaster relief, substance abuse, mental illness, family counseling, emergency aid and youth groups.

La-Z-Boy ramps production to shorten up to 9-month lead times

Dive Brief:

  • La-Z-Boy is working to cut down “unprecedented” lead times of five to nine months by increasing production capacity “as quickly as possible,” CEO Kurt Darrow said on an earnings call this month.
  • The company said it is communicating with partners in Asia and in the U.S. to address supply disruptions. It also opened a new manufacturing facility in Mexico that started production in December, which it anticipates will ramp up inventory over the first half of the year, and temporarily reopened portions of its Newton, Mississippi, assembly plant last year. Weekend and third-shift production lines that were started last year continued operation at all the retailer’s U.S. plants throughout Q3 2020.

 

La-Z-Boy’s CFO Prepares to Become CEO Amid Surge in Furniture Buying

La-Z-Boy Inc.’s finance chief is preparing to take the furniture maker’s helm as the company confronts a surge in demand and faces longer-term questions on how it will continue growing after the pandemic home-improvement craze ends.

The Monroe, Mich.-based company, known for its recliners, this week named Melinda Whittington its chief executive officer, succeeding longtime CEO Kurt Darrow, who is retiring. The changes take effect on April 25.

In a conference call with analysts and a follow-up interview with Furniture Today, outgoing CEO Kurt Darrow and his successor, current CFO Melinda Whittington, outlined how La-Z-Boy is addressing the positives and the problems, and set the stage for a change in corporate leadership at an industry manufacturing and retail powerhouse. (Darrow will continue as chairman of the board when Whittington officially assumes the CEO role at the end of La-Z-Boy’s fiscal year.)

La-Z-Boy Foundation makes $100,000 donation to United Way

The La-Z-Boy Foundation has increased its campaign contribution to the United Way of  Monroe/Lenawee Counties; with this year’s donation to be $100,000.

This is in support of the 2020-21 United Way annual fundraising campaign, with the money meant to help the agency and its partners manage increased needs relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.
