BIFMA launches product registry platform: BIFMA Compliant

The Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association launched the BIFMA Compliant product registry to provide clarity in the market about products that meet established industry standards.

The Grand Rapids-based nonprofit trade association BIFMA said Monday that it launched BIFMA Compliant, an industrywide registry of furniture products conforming to BIFMA safety and durability standards.

BIFMA has released an ANSI approved update to ANSI/BIFMA X6.4 – Occasional Use Seating. The 2021 edition is based upon ANSI/BIFMA X5.4-2020 Public & Lounge Seating.

In January, BIFMA released an update to ANSI/BIFMA X6.4 – 2018 (Occasional Use Seating). The updated edition, now designated ANSI/BIFMA X6.4 – 2021, aids furniture manufacturers in addressing the continued rise in Americans’ weight by increasing the test loads to reflect the current 95th percentile male weight of 275 lbs.

BIFMA Introduces New ANSI Occasional-Use Seating Standard

THE AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARDS INSTITUTE (ANSI) has approved the new safety and performance standard: ANSI/BIFMA X6.4-2021, Occasional-Use Seating.

The BIFMA Subcommittee for Seating Standards worked diligently for the past three years to intro- duce this new ANSI standard. The Subcommittee began work in 2017 and provided guidance for the 2018 publication of BIFMAX6.4-2018 Occasional-Use Seating. Demand for this standard increased in 2020 with the influx of work at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the Association sponsored development of X6.4 to become an American National Standard.

BIFMA names new CEO, board

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  BIFMA has appointed Deirdre Jimenez as its first president and CEO. She will succeed Tom Reardon, who is retiring after 22 years as executive director of BIFMA, the not for profit trade association for business and institutional furniture manufacturers.

BIFMA has appointed Deirdre Jimenez as its first president and chief executive officer (CEO).

In the new role as the president and CEO, Jimenez will be responsible for leading BIFMA and partnering with its board of directors, membership (regular, supplier, service, and international), and staff by connecting and advancing the industry’s common interests through a period of disruption and growth.

 

 

BIFMA Announces Election of New Members to Board of Directors

Grand Rapids, MI –BIFMA announces the election of new industry leaders to its Board of Directors. Kristie Juster, Chief Executive Officer at Kimball International, and Matt Schad, CEO of Nucraft Furniture Company, were elected at the May meeting of the Board.
