Herman Miller CEO says company can’t find employees without LGBTQ protections

ZEELAND, Mich. – Office furniture giant Herman Miller CEO Andi Owen says her company is struggling to attract talented workers because its home state of Michigan lacks civil protections for LGBTQ people.
In a conversation Michigan Radio’s Lester Graham, Owen said some potential employees have voiced worry about the lack of non-discrimination protections in the state of Michigan.

After 80 years at the riverfront giant, the furniture company is moving its showroom to a new development in the trendy corridor.

furniture company and longtime tenant in the Mart is leaving the building after eight decades for a new home in the Fulton Market District, following the lead of another prominent furniture maker that recently made the same move.

Herman Miller, which opened its first Mart showroom in 1939, leased an entire mixed-use development planned at 1100 W. Fulton Market, where it will move late next year, the company confirmed.

Through Steelcase’s vast dealer network, designers will have access to an array of Moooi-designed carpets, lighting, furniture, and accessories for their workplace projects. Steelcase to add 400 workers, 600,000-sq-ft of production space

CARROLLTON, Texas – Office furniture giant Steelcase, number 2 on the FDMC 300 list of largest wood firms in North America, will hire nearly 400 seasonal workers for new operations in Texas.

Steelcase is hoping to grow its footprint in Northern Texas and has purchased two industrial buildings in the area – adding more than 600,000 square feet of production space. The company will use the buildings for manufacturing and distributing beginning this summer.

Martela Corporation starts eur 4 million cost efficiency program

Martela continues the cost efficiency improvements started in 2018 in order to improve its profitability. Target for the cost efficiency program is to reach EUR 4 million annual savings. Purpose of the planned actions is to align company’s cost base to meet current market conditions and to secure set profitability targets. In addition to decrease fixed costs, company is also investigating other alternatives to change cost base to be more flexible. Planned savings will start to materialize gradually from the beginning of 2020 and will have full impact by the first quarter of 2021.

Sale of Lista Office Group to Henglin

Chinese furniture manufacturer Henglin. The sale forms part of the eastern Swiss group’s targeted strategy for internationalisation and growth.
