Historic Indiana Furniture factory to be converted into apartments

JASPER, Ind. – Developers plan to convert a 119-year-old building that formerly housed Indiana Furniture’s manufacturing operations into an affordable multi-use housing complex.

According to the Dubois County Free Press, Krempp Construction, and Flaherty & Collins propose transforming the historic four-story building into 147 one- and two-bedroom apartments that would rent between $400 and $950 a month. The project’s cost is estimated at $40 million.

MillerKnoll reports decline in Q3 sales; reduces workforce

ZEELAND, Mich. – Office and contract furniture giant MillerKnoll reported $872.3 million in third quarter net sales, an 11.4% decline from last year. Last quarter, the company also reported an 11% decline.

Sales decreased across all three of the company’s segments, falling 9% in America contract, 10.4% in international contract and 17% in global retail. Orders for the quarter also fell, dropping 6.2% from last year.

Office furniture store owner eyes expansion

Israel Guerrero, owner of Continuum Office Environments LLC, is considering adding an additional location for his office furniture store.

After earning $1.4 million in revenue in 2023 and adding two more employees, Continuum has outgrown its 13,000-square-foot facility at 720 N. Fancher, north of the Franz Bakery Outlet and south of Broadway Avenue in Spokane Valley.

Steelcase reports weaker Q4, but with growth coming from large corporations

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Office and contract furniture giant Steelcase reported fourth quarter revenue of $775.2 million, a 3% decline from the same quarter last year.

Revenue declined 2% in the Americas,  which once again the company attributed to a lower order backlog. Internationally, revenue fell 6% and was seen across most markets. The company attributed macroeconomic factors for its international decline.

NE Minneapolis warehouse aims to give abandoned office furniture second life

As companies across the metro have shifted to hybrid and remote work, one northeast Minneapolis warehouse has turned into an abandoned office furniture graveyard that’s aiming to give those desks and chairs a new life.

For more than 35 years, the mission at Furnish Office and Home has been the same: “Anything we can keep out of the landfill is a good thing,” Alex Lundeen, the store’s manager, said.

Haworth to tap furniture demand in tier II cities

CHENNAI: US-headquartered global workspace solutions company Haworth is looking to tap the growing demand for furniture from office space in tier II cities in India.

The company will be groundbreaking for its second plant near Chennai to double its current production capacity of one lakh chairs per year in the country. The facility is being set up at Sriperumbudur near Chennai with an investment of $8-$10 million, which will commence commercial operations over the next 18-36 months.
