Steelcase moving into Glendale

A manufacturer of furniture for offices, hospitals and classrooms is developing its footprint in the West Valley by taking 211,360 square feet at C|303, an industrial development under construction at 5101 N. Cotton Lane in Glendale.

Executive managing director Isy Sonabend and senior associate Drew Eisen with NAI Horizon and Arie Salomon with NAI P-S-P in Seattle represented Steelcase Inc. of Grand Rapids, Michigan, in a long-term lease valued at $10.8 million. Upon completion of construction, the building that Steelcase will occupy — Building A — will total 375,660 square feet.

Thanks to Kimball acquisition, HNI sees major sales gains in fourth quarter

MUSCATINE, Iowa – Office and contract furniture giant HNI reported $679.8 million in fourth quarter consolidated net sales, a gain of 19% from last year, largely thanks to its acquisition of Kimball last year. Not counting the acquisition, organic sales fell 6.4%.

Earnings per share rose 23% from last year, while operating margin expanded 410 basis points. Reasons for the improved margin were price-cost improvement, productivity gains and benefits from recent cost savings initiatives.

US-based furniture major MillerKnoll has set up its first retail outlet in the city, the sixth such facility in the country, through its authorised dealer Buildcraft Interior, the company said.
MillerKnoll has drawn up plans to open additional showrooms in key cities across India, Managing Director for Asia Pacific, Middle East, and African regions, Kartik Shethia said.

Herman Miller digs into design history with modular sofa posters

ZEELAND, Mich. — Herman Miller is giving a nod to its history of modular furniture design with two posters from its back catalog of advertising prints.

The prints are each taken from a company catalog featuring 44 black-and-white posters created by Herman Miller’s graphic design team. Known as the “The Big Book,” the company’s salespeople used the large print posters to market the pieces to prospective showrooms and retailers.
